Founded by Alan J. Kivitz, MD, MACR, as a private rheumatology practice in 1982, the Altoona Center for Clinical Research began conducting clinical trials in 1991 and has since completed more than 1,300 studies across rheumatology, chronic pain, obesity, vaccines, medical devices, and other indications. Our 40,000-square-foot facility brings patient care and clinical research under one roof, with 32 exam rooms, a state-certified laboratory, an infusion suite, an on-site pharmacy, a five-bed Phase I unit, secure temperature-controlled storage, and extensive diagnostic capabilities. Participants are recruited primarily through our private practice and AI-enabled database of approximately 72,000 patients, supported by digital, print, email, direct mail, and radio outreach. The pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology organizations, and contract research organizations featured below reflect the breadth of our clinical trial experience.
